Instant Book Adoption

Worked to accelerate Airbnb’s then big bet — a majority adoption of an Instant Book model.

Goal: Streamline the booking experience for guests while reinforcing trust and clarity for hosts.

Role: Product designer contributing across research, prototyping, and final UI for core booking surfaces.

Impact: Helped grow Instant Book usage from 30% to 80% by addressing common concerns around guest expectations and host control through a series of targeted features and product improvements.

2015 - 2016

House Rules

Designed Airbnb’s first version of House Rules to set clear expectations before a booking is confirmed.

Problem: Hosts lacked a structured way to communicate house-specific rules, leading to friction and cancellations.

Solution: Created a configurable set of rules hosts could enable per listing, covering topics like quiet hours, smoking, and pets.

Outcome: Reduced misaligned bookings and improved host satisfaction by establishing boundaries upfront.

2016

Guest Picker Redesign

Redesigned the original guest selection experience to accommodate complex travel needs, including families with children.

Problem: The original guest picker didn’t differentiate between adults, children, and infants, leading to confusion and policy misalignment.

Solution: Introduced distinct fields for adults, children, and infants, along with contextual recommendations tied to listing rules.

Role: Coordinated with teams across Airbnb to ensure adoption of the new design and worked with Policy and Legal teams to align on the roll-out plan.

Outcome: Improved clarity during the booking flow and enabled hosts to better prepare for arriving guests, especially families. Provided the business with clearer metrics around families travelling with Airbnb, enabling improvements in search to book and marketing efforts.

2017 - 2018

Listing Page Enhancements

Designing a better experience for guests as they shop for the perfect stay.

Goal: Significantly simplify, declutter, and improve our listing page experience with a neutral to positive impact on most booking metrics.

Role: Product Design Lead working to coordinate engineering efforts with design vision through prototyping, work sharing, and collaboration. Partnering with the Product Manager to establish principles and guidance in responding to cross-org experimentation needs on Listing Pages to ensure a high-quality experience.

Impact: Dramatically reduced the length of Listing Pages, removed or moved many components Guests told us and Data showed us were not most important in booking decesions. Significanly decreased time spent on listing pages before booking through our efforts and the launch of the “Highlights” feature.
